What is the ARRG Skate Skills 101 Programme?
Roller derby is a full-contact sport played on roller skates which everyone can have fun playing.
Our programme is highly comprehensive, and will take you from your first nervous strides to a full understanding of the sport of roller derby and the skills required to play it. So don’t worry if you have never roller skated before, because we’ll teach you everything you need to know! We cater for people interested in either recreational or competitive skating or those who want to ref.
The programme is designed to teach you skating skills while building your core strength gradually in a safe and healthy manner. Our coaches are highly experienced and our first aiders are fully certified, so you are in safe hands! Auld Reekie Roller Girls are a full member league of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association and the UK Roller Derby Association.
Check out this awesome blog from recent Skate Skills 101 recruit Life Saber on her own experience of going through the programme for inspiration!

Awards for All Scotland Funding
Ensuring our sport is accessible for all is incredibly important to us. We want to ensure everyone who wants to skate with us, can do and we are committed to tackling any possible barriers to participation. So we are super pleased to have recently secured Awards for All Scotland grant funding for our Skate Skills 101 programme which has allowed us to purchase 10 full starter kits which in turn, will be given on loan to those who may struggle to cover the costs of purchasing the kit required to participate in the programme.
The kits will be allocated to those who contact us to ask for support and on a first come, first served basis. We ask that anyone who is struggling to finance their own kit purchase to please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us help you out if we can. Please note, as kit will need to be ordered in time for the new session, applications for support must be with us by 16th April at the very latest and applicants MUST HAVE SIGNED UP to pay for the first part of the course to be eligible for this support.
