This months featured Skater is the amazing Bint Imperial.
Bint skates with the Twisted Thistles, and is a triple threat skater. She Jams, blocks and pivots with ease, and makes roller derby look easy! Skating for the first time this year for the Leithal Weapons in our home season, who knows what she might do! We are certainly looking forward to finding out!
Home Team Affiliation: Leithal Weapons (though formerly Skatefast Club!)
Joined ARRG in: January 2011
Favourite position to play: Blocker. I like doing the odd bit of jamming too though.
Best ARRG memory: Winning all our bouts at ECDX, jumping in the pool with GRD then and selling lots of merch out of a suitcase trackside whilst a little drunk with Sid. I think I sold Bonnie Thunders a t-shirt, but I can’t quite remember. It was brilliant.
Favourite after skate drink/snack: Bananas! Coconut milk is rank.
Worst Derby injury: I’ve been miraculously unscathed. My thumb gets a bit stiff occasionally from falling on it ages back, but that’s about it.
Best Derby advice: Go to practice! You’ll never get anywhere unless you put the hours in.
Any funny/embarrassing derby stories?: Probably when Stitches pulled my leggings down when jamming in America, and it got reported in the Edinburgh Evening News.
Derby Hero: I’ve got to say Crazylegs. She’s put so much work into building up the league from the early days whilst also being an amazing coach, tactician and creeper. And she’s also pretty good at derby. Can I say I love her bum? I love her bum. It does spectacular hits.
What do you do outside of derby: I’m Archivist at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. It’s pretty much that and derby.
Fun fact about you: You know the thing that hangs down the back of your throat (the uvula)? I have two.
