is there a button to mark topics unread?
i know there is one for marking read.
but sometimes i read a topic and need to remind myself to re-read
it later.

No unread button, but you can bookmark the topic (link just above the body of the message), then later, go into "settings" "manage bookmarks" and all the topics will be there for you to read...
