I seem to be all full of questions lately... What does everyone eat before practice? I used to have a terrible time with this before Fresh Meat sessions, partly because of nervous butterflies. Usually ended up not eating much at all and then feeling all drained and hungry by the end of practice. But now we're moving to an earlier time for the Wrecking Balls, and I'm wondering about breakfast. Meat? Eggs? Chocolate? What works best to keep you fuelled without making you want to hurl after the first endurance drill? Surly

once before a bout i ate a whole loaf of bread.
basically, i am the wrong person to ask. bananas and avocados are good though. or a cheeky bag of mccoys.
avoid dairy!

I normally have poached eggs on toast plus some museli with banana buuuut as Wrecking Balls time has changed I'm going to have to change this a bit. Not enough safe digesting time anymore!
I think the next couple of weeks will be trial weeks for me of figuring the breakfast plan out again.

Hmm, I'm liking the eggs-on-toast idea...

Beans on toast.
Or like, a yoghurt, a granola bar, an orange and a banana as and when you fancy them in the lead up to training - I like eating small stuff instead of one big meal before training. Bags of nuts too.
Lots of people have egg related brekkie stuff before a bout - like scrambled eggs on toast but I hate eggs.
Porrige would also be a good one for energy I guess but I hate that too!
Sometimes I think it's slightly better to be a wee bit hungry than burping meat balls up all over track.

Bannannas are great fuel! Or a hearty bowl of cereal?
If I have a game or scrimmage then I like to make a wee pot of pasta, quite plain, with some veggies. I find it easier to 'pick' at, so that I dont over eat. EG if I had a sandwich i would scoff the lot in one sitting and feel sick on track! I think little nibbly foods are the way forward!

ooo ooo ooo I read/tried - however never really stuck to- some kind of plan on this...
1-2 hours before - you want carbs, porridge is a good choice but so is a rice or pasta dish (stick to brown if you can)
about 30 mins before you want some fruit for the energy
There's a million different pre-meals
but stick with carbs 2 hours before and a top up of glucose about 30 mins before for an extra kick of energy.
I think that's the basic rules of nutrition....
Protein after a workout is also good and helps repair muscles I normally would go with a egg or peanut butter sandwich after karate (seeded bread naturally cause it's tastey)

Porridge made with milk, fruit & honey for brekkie
Like Circuit says eat a little fruit or nuts/raisins about 20 mins before session.
Eating within 2 hours after exercise is best-withing half an hour if possible.
Traditionally protein after training but a lot of recent studies have been championing a 4:1 carb:protein ratio post workout meal/snack

you should eat carbs straight afterwards to build up your glycogen levels.

i ate fish pie before endurance once. not recommended. sometimes an energy drink is good, helps me feel less like a puddle at the end of practice.
