Hey - I was at fresh meat yesterday and had such an awesome time I'm looking at getting my own gear now. I had a look at this on the kickflipboards site, a derby starter pack: http://kickflipboards.com/quad-skates/d ... -pack.htmlIs this a good idea? it's a lot cheaper than buying everything separately but I don't want to waste money on something that's not going to be very good. Cheers, Carrie

Hi Carrie, I think someone has posted a link to this somewhere else in the forum awhile ago as good starter package. These are the skates/pads that most folk seem to start out with, so it looks like a good deal! The only thing I would add is that if you have any knee problems at all, the Anarchy pads might not offer sufficient protection. But plenty of ladies who have been skating for ages still seem to use theirs, so it's really a matter of preference. Glad you enjoyed yourself yesterday - you guys all did so well!

CARRIE! YEAH! You were amazing. These pads are totally fine, I used to have Anarchy pads - I switched to better ones just because they got a bit battered and compacted due to outdoor skating mishaps, but they were good until then...

Cheers, Carrie Quite a lot of us noobs have bought this package from Kickflip, me & the missus are very happy with our kit. Heather did get some Anarchy gaskets to go under her knee pads for extra protection and we have also changed our wheels for softer, more grippy wheels cos the Radar Caymans that came with the Riedell R3's were quite slippy. If i remember correctly they weren't too bad in Jack Kane for Sunday practices but in Meadowbank on Fridays I was slipping badly. Be prepared to want a wheel upgradeafter a little while! A good starter pack though, I'd recommend it and Kickflip had good customer service too. JL.

I got all my pads, helmet and some toe guards (all brand new) from an ebay seller called Conflict Skates and was very impressed as they combined postage on items and my stuff all arrived the next day. Pads seemed cheaper than in the shop (mine are TSG ones and were £12 for knee pads online) and the toe guards were £3.99 and helmet £5. Bargainlicious!

I just wanted to add to this, if you buy any TSG products from Billys ( www.billys.co.uk) you get 10% off if you use the code DERBY.
