So, poisons have probably been discussed to death, but anyway, I'm thinking about getting some and wanted to hear people's opinions of slim vs standard width and alloy hubs vs regular. I'm getting them to have a bit more stability, so I'm wondering, are the regular width ones just too sluggish or will the slim ones rob me of the stability I was looking for in the first place? I know the slim ones apparently give you more maneuverability, but I'm not exactly rockin the hops anyway... Then the alloys, are they really necessary for an average weight and height person (63-65 kg for 5'6''), or are the regular ones really only for the more sylph-like among us? Thanks xx

There's also Venoms - which are exactly like poisons except shorter (59mm).
I've not actually tried any poisons but I've ordered the slims (non alloy). I've only used slim wheels and I like hopping about so I'd not like to reduce that - however if I find I still slide about with poisons I might need to cave and try wide wheels for extra grip.
I'm about 5'1" and 54kg and I've decided that alloys would be a waste of money for me. From what I've read the tiny bit of flex my mass might exert on the nylon hum might actually benefit me and give a little extra grip when skating without slowing me down. If you think you're on the middle ground perhaps try both hub types and decide if the extra roll with the alloy is noticeable and worth the extra money.
I'm just excitable, impatient and loose with my money so I ordered them before trying - but I hear good things!

Firstly, I think one of my legs weighs 54kg. I'm going to feed you so much cake.
My understanding of the alloys was that it makes them lighter and it's good for larger ladies like myself cause it doesn't make me as sluggish cause i'm not *squishing* down as much. I'm pretty sure that's all technical talk. I'm not sure if a wee thing like yourself would notice the difference.

ooh the venoms look interesting. I hadn't thought about the shorter profile. Now I'm thinking about Jukes aswell. I suppose I'll just have to borrow different types and see what I like! I'll almost be sad once I've made my final decision, it's like the anticipation of a delicious dinner is as good as the dinner itself. Except with wheels you don't have the torturous pain of hunger to ruin the anticipation.

I don't think you can get more grippy than poisons can you? They are like 79A or something like that. I think there is more 'flexibility' in the nylon hubs and...um...thin wheels loose their grooves faster than thicker ones. If you are a hopper, you will hop fine in wide wheels anyways, but if actual grip is your thing, go for wide (in my opinion). Jukes are great. Poisons are great, stingrays are great. And G Rod's. It's good too, to have like your 'pusher wheels' (inside left) be grippier, say 88A and then the other outside be harder, 93A kinda mix. If you have *all* poisons, you end up with all grip, which slows you down more than having a mix. Grippy for speed, harder for rolling. You might know this already tho! I have easily spent 3 years and probaly almost £400 trying to get the perfect wheels for me. So far I am happy with my stinger/G Rod mix. Everyone is different tho, so it's important to try someone else's first just in case they aren't for you. I like a silly amount of grip so I totally understand what you are saying!

I think i'm the only person in the world that requires like no grip.
