Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could help me, as i seem to be just getting myself more and more confused. I wanna get affordable skates that will find skating outdoors a breeze (as that's where am planning to do most of my skating). I've not skated in a few years so will be majorly rusty but i really wanna get back into it. I've been looking at those packages with skates and all the gear (round 160 quid) but then I'm thinking i may need to change wheels and toe stop which is more and more money. Would it be worth going down the package deal or finding the skate and getting all the protective gear separate like off ebay or something? What would an outdoor skate need to be like ? argh the confusion .
If anyone can help that would be amazing. Thanks meeloh x

your skates can be whatever you want as far as i know. what you need though are soft wheels. like Sure Grip 'sugar's' or Atom 'Poisons'. low durometer. like 85A.

Hey That makes it so much clearer, just a case of wheel change then can you get those wheels in edinburgh or is it just easier to get them on the net? thanks for the reply x

I skate on Kryptonics wheels for my outside skating and I LOVE them! Only £20 from Everglides and worth every penny. I wouldn't suggest using poisons outside because they're not cheap and they will get buggered soon.
Whatever pads you end up getting make sure you tape the plastic up for the first few times while you find your feet. They will get more bashed about outside and the tape helps to prolong them. The same goes for the toes of your skates. The pound shop is awesome for strong silver tape!
I hope to get to Cramond a few more times before the winter starts so hopefully see you skating about!

Hey Thanks for the links Zilla. Lingus when you say 'plastic up' do you mean put tape on the wheels and toe stop? wont that hinder the skatin? I'd been lookin at the Kryptonics they are very pretty Crammond is beautiful so will prob catch me there or Portobello as it has some lovely spots too. meeloh x

Hey Meeloh, Connie means put duct tape over your pads. Just because it's really difficult to stop outside using plough stop unless your legs are used to it, so at first the easiest way to stop is to 'take a knee'.
also if you do have a few accidental falls, your pads will get really roughed up outside. so most of us but a few generous layers of duct tape over the plastic shell bit of the pad when we skate outside, so that when you land on it the tape gets ripped and gouged instead of your pad

Seconding the Kryptonics from Everglides! I got them at Connie's suggestion a while back and have absolutely loved them. And yeah, there's no point in shelling out loads for wheels that you're just going to tear up!

Also, i'm pretty much in a relationship with Everglides because I love them so much! You'll order one day and you'll have the stuff the next! But yeah I meant tape your pads because you'll mess them up! The very front of your skates too, like the bit above the toe stop. I don't know how but you end up scuffing this up somehow! Happy skating
