come for the next 2 sundays anyway! you won't be able to skate, but you can watch & learn, and probably NSO.

after that is the 4 week one-on-one sessions to get people past minimums.

simple! x

Nice one.

I won't be there this coming Sunday (concluding missives on the house purchase - yay!) but I'll be there the following Sunday.

I can't believe it's not even been a whole week since the last round of minimums...

Just want to add to this (I'll post somewhere else as well in case anyone misses it) - we will be doing another round of minimums in January. If anyone doesn't pass after the 4 extra sessions we're running from next week, you're encouraged to keep attending any non-ARRG skating opportunities, like CYC, then come and have a go at your minimums. This also applies to those returning from an injury. We'll put out a reminder nearer the time. Just want people to know that, if you don't make it this time, all is not lost, so keep skating your butts off!

Hey Mo! :)

So Slash and I have been asking ourselves - when you say "another round of minimums" - do you mean just the minimums, or is there a whole other round of Fresh Meat happening?

Thanks!

Also, there are alot of 'extra curricular' sessions bookd ouside of ARRG. Might be worth looking into these and spending some time focussing on the areas you know you need work on? x

Yay for CYC! Although not sure it'll be much help with laps...:/

Just to echo Hex, can someone please clarify whether it's a new FM session starting up in January or just a minimums testing day?

Aaand if it's just mins testing, is there any chance we can have a couple of JK practices in the weeks leading up to it so we're not jumping straight into it after a few months of skating on other floors and smaller spaces?

Slash/Hex - it is just a mins testing session in January as far as I'm aware. Thee is no date yet for the new FM intake to begin, we're working on that.

Can you email [email protected] with any more specific questions?

Cheers!

xx

OK yes please do direct any further questions to us at SnT, as Crazy suggests. However, in the meantime, I can confirm that we do mean minimums testing only in January. FM will hopefully be restarting early in the new year but we can't confirm dates as this stage.

We're operating on the principle that we should be able support just about everyone to pass their mins in the 4 intensive one to one sessions. Having a few months' extra curricular practice and another go at minimums is an extra opportunity for those who don't pass (also means if you're returning from injury, there's no need to compromise your safety by rushing). If you don't pass in January, you can start the 16 week programme again as soon as it resumes.

Re: practice on the floor, there are a couple of points I'd like to make here: firstly 25 in 5 is not so much a test of how well you can cope with a specific floor etc. as a test of your form and endurance. If you have correct derby stance, nice big strides, 'skating the diamond', powerful crossovers and enough fitness to keep up a good pace, you should get 25 in 5 (we know it's hard!) So you're better off working on those things in any space, on any floor. That's what will get you through. Endurance can be worked on in your bedroom (!), the gym, the park, the stairs at work... you get my drift.

I'm afraid my second point about using the hall space for a few sessions beforehand is a practical/financial one: if we have block-booked a hall and it's free, SnT will give you the all clear to have a practice if possible (come to us with questions/suggestions please, not the centre staff). But we unfortunately can't book halls for a very small number of people to have a wee practice run in, it's just not financially viable. The halls are very expensive. Having said all that, we will provide every opportunity for skaters to progress that we possibly, realistically can. We'd just like to make sure that every skater is also aware of their own responsibility for their progression, as well as the league's.

Finally, I'd like to remind everyone that the best way to deal with *feelings* about the league and how it's run, as well as actually making a difference to this is to... yep, you've guessed it, join a committee! :gbanana: :gbanana: :gbanana:
