I'm sorry if there has been a feed on this before but was wondering if anyone knows of skates/brands that are good for people with wide feet?
thanks x

I'm informed that sure grip skates are wider than most and the Riedell R3 should be avoided.

If you feel that you have unusually wide feet I'm sure everyone here will suggest that you either try on as many skates as you can or go to dundee to get fitted...

I have ridiculously wide feet and R3s fit me really comfortably, I've never had any issues with them. If you can find some to try on first then that's defo the way to go.

Sure Grip Rebels (the ones with the Probe plate or the AWESOME Rebel Invader with the Invader plate) are really good for wide feet.

Everglides stocks the Rebel Invaders now, and they're VAT free if you are a smaller size.

Fair enough!

I conclude that web sites can give lots of information however you never truly know unless you try it on!

Not that I have followed my own advice in the past

Want wide? My boots are crazy wide by comparison to the normal Derby 'speed skates'. They're quad hockey boots, you can get them here...

I have the Millenium Plus II, but I think they're designed to have a bit more space. Again, as always, try before you buy (if you can!)

Suregrip rebel invader £185.00 (if us7 or smaller) £210 else
http://www.everglides.co.uk
[These come with decent enough wheels if you like them and also sell on to someone if you don't like them]
If you mention Auld Reekie roller girls you get a 10% discount

http://www.theultimateskatesupply.com/Sure-Grip_Rebel_Custom_Derby_Package/p114675_1015197.aspx
These guys also do the sure grip invader and I think it worked out to be £175 inc. delivery and you can get different colours (not sure if that involve custom charge though)!!!

187 killer knee + elbow £79.95
http://kickflipboards.com/187-pro-pads-set.html
[These guys alo set up some good budget packs to get you through FM - worth checking out BEFORE purchasing from a US shop]

Fear helmet from sports direct (via sports direct or amazon) £8 + p&P and you get a free SD mug!
[Cheapest decent helment I've seen as SD are currently having a mega sale]

Mouth guard - get a £4 one from asda or something until you can afford a better boil and bite one of your choice or fitted mouth guard (from dentist)

Any wrist guards with should be fine to be honest get some fair priced ones on amazon.

The reflex utilitool is cheaperest (£20) to buy from the skate shop in cockburn street (the name has slipped my mind)
however if you want to foot out an extra pound for postage (which might work out the same as getting the bus) you can look on ebay. If this is too much for a tool there are many cheaper options available.

bearing lube can be picked up from any skate shop or online pretty cheap.

toe savers ar prettier but I've opted for buying gorilla tape and covering my toes.

Disclaimer - I'm biased towards the suregrip rebel invader skate because that's what I have - not that I've tried any other skates!

Do check out kick flip derby packages though!

Just a warning from personal experience - I've got wide feet and made the Dundee trek to try to be smart about it, but I've ended up with skates that don't fit well at all. (Waiting on my new Rebel Invaders to be delivered now!)

They don't have a huge selection up there, and contrary to what I'd hoped, getting measured didn't magically translate into a skate that was right for me.

Remember if you buy skates from the US you will be bent over and shafted by customs. How much did you pay Hoots, it was something rediculous wasn't it?
