Re-entering legally means re-entering the track behind in play skaters. You do not need to take a knee but this does help stop your forward motion quickly and allow you to enter back into play quickly too.

I would not advice getting back on the track by any other means than getting up and skating. But you are only called on penalties while you are considered skating ie not downed or out.

I really dont get the straddling the track thing, might ask u more tomoro :refbanana:

Straddling is when you are at the track boundary with one skate touching in bounds (that includes the line itself) and the other foot is on the outside.

There is nothing wrong with straddling the track it is when you come back in bounds that the penalties can start. If you are jamming and pass while straddling then come in bounds you'll get a minor. Does this make any more sense?

If not feel free to pick my brains tomorrow.

so if you are on a scoring lap and u pass a player whilst straddling the boundary line you wouldnt pick up a point as you would have picked up a minor and therefore not passed the player legally? is that right?

You only get the minor once you have re-entered. If you pass the go out of bounds then come in you are fine as this is a no penalty situation.

With regards to the points I will double check with some fellow refs and see what they say.

Right no points awarded if you pass while straddling, you would need to exit the track and re-enter behind in order to legally pass said skater. Does that make sense.

i'm pretty sure i got a major for the straddling nonsense when playing in the molls v dolls game. i had read the rules so was sure i could do it, then passed a player (as i was jammer) whilst straddling the line. i was booty blocking them to stop them pushing me out of bounds completely, and straddling the line as i did this. then when i re-entered i got sent off for a major....
im really confused!! maybe this was a freak occurence, i thought i was starting to understand it! sorry ella....xx

you may have re-entered in front of a skater who you had passed illegally therefore you would have been cutting the track. This should only have been a minor though unless you passed mulitiple skaters or the skater you passed was the foremost opposition skater.

It is always best to fall back and rejoin behind so that you can pass legally.

Remember refs can sometimes (not often ) make mistakes.

hi guys
have been having a look through the rules and to be honest, it's not making a whole lotta sense to me. i think because i haven't scrimmaged/played much it's hard to put a lot of it into context. or maybe it's cos i have a tiny brain

anyway a while ago someone mentioned having a rules night or a quiz night or similar and i just wondered if this would be a good idea for folk? that sort of thing really helps me when trying to memorise stuff. i can't offer to host anything at the mo, but i'd happily attend and bring cake if anyone else is up for it!

Can always look at adding an online rules quiz to the new site if someone wants to write down all the questions and multiple choice answers (and also mention which one of them is the correct answer as I will have no idea :P)
